Birthday parties, yay!

Max went to his first birthday party in London this past weekend and had a blast. It was mostly kids from his class (you’re required here to invite the whole class if you invite anyone) but also, strangely enough, a boy he knew from his Little Kickers football classes that he doesn’t go to school with.

They did all the standard birthday party things and had some entertainment (a girl who led them in songs and dances and things). And there was cake and candy and all manner of toys.

This is how much fun he had with one of his best friends from school at the party:

Fire! Fire! Fireman Sam!

He’s also looking forward to a good week in school this week as the theme is…(wait for it)…RED!

By far this favorite color. In an obsessive way. Is it possible to be OCD about a color? If so, Max is totally OCD about the color red. He’s going to be wearing a red shirt to school every day this week and I have no idea yet what he’s going to bring for Show and Tell on Friday but I’m sure it will be a RED-splosion.

Last Friday’s show and tell was a solid success. He brought his “Sounds of the Past” book about Knights (it’s a pop up book with sound as well) and told everyone all about jousting and (I think) even demonstrated proper technique. His teachers were quite impressed.

Harvest Festival

Max and his classmates have been preparing for the Harvest Festival for over a week now. They learned a poem. Yesterday, Max and I went shopping and decorated up a harvest basket for a local charity that the school sponsors.

I colored the leaves myself!

This morning was finally the day of the assembly! Max was very excited, even though he is still sick with a cold (mostly a runny nose, but a bit of a cough too). We dropped off the basket and he went to class to prepare. He wore his red shirt to go with his red leaf (Mommy had suggested his nice blue shirt, but that wouldn’t do for a Harvest festival).

Harvest Festival!

The Den (Max’s class) went first. They performed their poem and also sang a song! They all did a wonderful job. I’m very proud of Max.

Don't you like my red leaf? I made this one too.

And, for cuteness overload, here’s the video.

It’s Football Time Again!

I had my first not-very-good drop off at school today. We forgot my bike and I really, really, really wanted to ride it to school. I realized it when we were about 2/3 of the way there. It made me very, very sad.

I was okay after a little while. Mrs. Spiers was nice to me.

Today we played instruments and made music. I told Mommy I played a “number 4” with Freddy, a boy in my class. Mommy isn’t sure what that means.

We also practiced a poem called Autumn Leaves today for the Harvest Festival. You can see it in the picture on top of my head. I am trying to learn it by osmosis, Mommy says. I’m not sure what that means, so we’re even now.

Today was also my first day back in Little Kickers class! I was super excited to see Coach Charlie again. I’ve moved up to the “bigger” kids class. I was hoping my other friend Freddy would be there, but he wasn’t. I did recognize one boy. Either way, it was a lot of fun and I scored a lot of goals!

Happy Face, Sad Face

Mrs. Spiers told Mommy today that I got on the “sad” face board for a little while (because I kept touching something I wasn’t supposed to) but that I redeemed myself and got moved to the “happy” face list instead.

Whew!

I told Mommy I earned two house points today, but there was only one on my shirt. I think I lost the other one.

Mommy also found out who Antonella was. I kept telling her how much I liked this girl, but Mommy didn’t see that name on the class list. Antonella is one of the Montessori student teachers. Mrs. Spiers says I like to sound out her name.

I rode my bike to school today and back! I really liked that and I go very fast. All the other kids have scooters and I didn’t want to be left out.

Thumbs Up

I recently figured out how to do a good thumbs up and now I do it all the time, especially when I’m talking about school.

Thumbs up for breakfast!

I had a good day in school today. We ate our fruit snacks outside and had a picnic in the garden. I got to run around! I’m very big on running around.

We also made decorations for the Harvest Festival coming up. I made a RED leaf (of course). I got another house point too, for being a good listener.

I’m also getting really good at shaking hands and saying “Good morning” and “Good afternoon” when I get there and when I leave. Sometimes I use the wrong hand, but I always shake!

At breakfast, Mommy and I worked on my castle sticker book.

Mommy note: I’ve yet to see a boy come out with more than one house point sticker, but I’ve seen the girls come out with two or three. Curious…

And it’s…Super Fast Boy!

I told Mommy how super fast I was at school today. We had gym and we’re learning about colors (or, colours, as they say here) and I told her that green means go, red means stop, and orange means get ready! I am always ready for anything.

My first house point!

I was a good listener today at story time and I sat nicely. I earned my first house point! The story was about a rocket and the boy caught a star.

On the way home, we walked for a while with a boy from my class named Freddy. We found sticks and had a sword fight. I wanted him to come home with me to play some more, but he had to go home.

I wore my new red converse shoes today. They match Daddy’s!

One week down…

Mommy: “What was your favorite thing this week at school?”

Max: “It was Fe Fi Fo Fum!”

Mommy: “Um, okay.”

Red eyes...and is that a mustache? Or my nose?

Today, when Mommy and Daddy picked me up from school, my teacher showed them how I had a Transformers plaster (a bandage) on my leg and she asked me to tell them how I got it. I told them a really long story about how someone was running and I was running — really fast — and Mrs. Spiers kept telling them how my nose was getting longer and longer. I’m not sure what she meant.

We had show and tell in class today and I brought my pirate coins that I got from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disney Paris. I told Mommy how some other people had pictures of when they were on holiday and someone else talked about “guy games.”

Mommy and Daddy also got to see the picture of myself that I made yesterday that I’d told them about. I told them I’d put red eyes!

Hello, Hello

I finally told Mommy about a song I learned in school today:

Hello, hello,
it’s nice to meet you,
Goodbye!

Mommy looked it up, but I like my version.

Hello, hello, it’s good to see you,
Hello, hello, it’s good to see you;
I must say, you’ve made my day,
Hello, hello, hello!

Hello, hello, it’s good to see you,
Hello, hello, it’s good to see you;
I must say, you’ve made my day,
Hello, hello, hello!

Goodbye, goodbye, it’s time to go now,
Goodbye, goodbye, it’s time to go now;
I must say, you’ve made my day,
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye!

Goodbye, goodbye, it’s time to go now,
Goodbye, goodbye, it’s time to go now;
I must say, you’ve made my day,
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye!
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye!

Day Three

Got my hat on today!

I was excited because Mommy finally sewed the name label inside my school hat so I could wear it today. I’m not actually required to wear the school uniform yet, since I’m just in the Den and I only go half days, but I really wanted to wear the hat.

I really liked school today, but I wouldn’t tell Mommy much about it other than that one of my teachers read books. One of the books had a crocodile and it ate a girl’s roller skate.

I also (apparently) colored a picture of myself with brown hair and red eyes and a red mouth and red eyelashes. Can you tell my favorite color is red?

Mommy found an invitation in my school bag for a birthday party! It is for Rohan, who is in my class, and will be my first party in London!

The Holy Terror and The Lion King

Me and Daddy after school

When Mommy and Daddy picked me up from school today, my teacher told them I’d been a terror (running and doing summersaults in class) but that I stopped when she told me to. She also said I was very nice. So I was half good today.

I had a great time at school, though. I especially liked playing with cars.

Mommy and Daddy met two moms and two of the girls I go to school with (Ruby and Greta). Maybe I can have a play date with one of them someday!

After school, we went to see The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre. It was a special treat for me for being a big boy (of course, Mommy got the tickets before she knew I was a holy terror) and also because Nana is visiting.

I really enjoyed it. My favorite part was when Pumba farted on a hyena and knocked him out and the big fight at the end between Simba and Scar. The part about Simba’s Daddy made me sad though. I was glad to see him again at the curtain call.
