Half Term

An out of order post here as I forgot to post it earlier…Last Friday was the last day before half term. I picked him and his friend D up at noon and took them out for pancakes.

Then we went to the park. They played for awhile and had ice lollies.

Then it was off to the school Art Fair.

Max’s class had studied Van Gogh. Max’s is in the lower left corner.

Then I got to see his school workbooks and see how he has been doing in maths, creative writing, science, art and more.

The Royal Mews

We always try to go to a museum on half term as well. This time we went to the Royal Mews by Buckingham Palace.

We saw fancy carriages and horses.

Max made a tri corner hat at the Learning Corner and decorated it well up.

He also tried on the fancy livery.

He especially liked the ultra fancy State carriage that requires the removal of part of a wall to get out of the garage!

It was seriously gold.

Tea at Tophams

One of our half term traditions is to go to an afternoon tea. This time, I had a LivingSocial voucher for one at Tophams Hotel near Victoria.

Max especially enjoyed the cupcakes.

And he was spoiled by the man there as he got an extra treat: Kit Kat!

Pony time!

Max is on half term break and living it. Went to a BBQ at a friend’s on Sunday (wherein Mommy drank wine and neglected to take any pictures), spent a rainy Monday with Daddy, and today went to Richmond Park to have a riding lesson with two twin girls that he adores.

He was seriously pleased with himself.

They also played Pooh Sticks in the park (seriously, that’s what it is called).

Splashed so much in mud puddles that we had to pour water out of their wellies…and snuggled and sang songs on the way home.

Frozen

I have been seeing so many Facebook statuses from people in the US about Frozen Mania but I hadn’t really noticed anything similar over here. Maybe it is because I have a boy, I don’t know. Max liked the movie, but he didn’t go insane over it.

But today, on the way home from school, we had this conversation:

Max: Mommy, why does Sofia G. always sing Let It Go?

Me: Um, I don’t know. Maybe she liked the movie?

Max: But she sings it ALL THE TIME. Every single day!!!! Over and over and over!!!

So apparently it is a thing here too…

Sweet Notes

Max had a note in his backpack today.

New big boy bike!

Daddy recently bought a used bike so he can sometimes commute to work in healthy fashion. This prompted Max to want to ride with him. He hadn’t ridden his bike in a while and it was way too small for him. So it was time for a new one.

Max biked it all the way home from Camden, mostly along the canal!

Rockets!

Daddy and Max have progressed from vinegar and baking soda rockets to air powered ones. They built a launch pad and everything.

Here they are on the way to the park.

And setting up. It takes some strength to get to the right psi!

And here is the rocket. I will post a video once I figure out how. 😉

Trombino

While at Simon’s, Max helped out my friend Fearn with a school project by testing out her trombino learning tool.

You blow into it to make sounds and pull a string to draw it out. He thought it was super cool.

First Proper D&D

Max had his first proper D&D (well, Pathfinder) experience last weekend during the Bank Holiday weekend.

We went to my friend Simon’s house (he’s my DM for the game I have been playing for over 2 years) and Max and Bill (Simon’s son) had a go.

Max played a two sword wielding fighter named Valeros. He was particularly keen to rack up his goblin kills.

They even went up against a black dragon and survived! The only quibbles were over treasure and how to split it, with Bill’s wizard at one point attempting Charm Person on Valeros to obtain a gem.

All in all, great fun and Max is hooked!
